Switched at Birth

Things don't go well at Regina's art show, where Emmett's parents get into a big fight. Meanwhile, Kathryn's latest actions may jeopardize the lawsuit against the hospital; and Daphne feels caught in the middle regarding her two schools.

Emmett photographs Bay and Daphne's blended family for a school assignment. Meanwhile, Regina gets acquainted with an art-gallery owner; Daphne questions Simone's trustworthiness; and Bay and Emmett divulge their true feelings to each other.

Kathryn's mother Bonnie comes for a visit which makes Bay and Daphne question their new roles in the family and where they fit in. While Bonnie can't get over the physical resemblance between Daphne and Kathryn, Daphne still sees herself as a girl from her old neighborhood and struggles with her new identity. Meanwhile, Bay and Regina grow closer as they try to find out what happened to Angelo and their shared love of art. Toby's new girlfriend Simone tries to change him, which Bay warns him about.

Bay helps Emmett move into his dad's apartment and they both meet his eccentric new girlfriend, Olivia. Daphne goes on a date with Wilke, but when she finds out he has taken other girls out on the same date, she questions whether she's special to him or not. Kathryn runs into Angelo at a farmer's market and decides to invite him over for a big family dinner. But, just as Regina and Angelo are getting closer, something happens that might pull them apart for good.

Daphne is desperate to help Emmett keep his motorcycle, and ends up lying to John and Kathryn to get the money. Meanwhile, Melody tells Bay to stay away from Emmett. The Kennish's interview potential new attorneys to work on their case against the hospital and despite Daphne's reservations, Regina agrees to go into business with Angelo. But, will John's revelation to Angelo tear his business relationship apart from Regina, or bring them closer together?

Bay is once again not in Melody's good graces after Emmett gets into trouble and Melody blames his relationship with Bay on the situation. Daphne is overall frustrated with her basketball coach who won't let her play, and her frustration extends to her relationship with Angelo who she finally confronts to discuss why he really left. Meanwhile, Kathryn and John learn some disheartening news about their lawyer that might ruin their entire case. And, Angelo makes Regina a business offer she can't refuse.

Bay tries to impress Melody with her ASL (American Sign Language) knowledge, trying to earn some points as Emmet's girlfriend - to no avail. Meanwhile, Regina tries to help Bay with Melody at a game night, but finds this to be harder than expected. When Kathyrn is approached by a local reporter to turn their family baby-swap story into a book, she balks at sensationalizing it and considers writing her own version of the truth, but will Regina also think this is a good idea? Daphne tries to fit in with her new friend Simone, who happens to be an old friend of Bay's, and Wilke and Toby try to earn some extra money by making fake ID's.

Daphne follows Emmett to a music festival, hoping to get some private time with him. Elsewhere, John requests that Regina be present when Bay sees Angelo again; and Kathryn secretly talks to a nurse who could assist in the lawsuit against the hospital.

Bay's life is changed by someone who shows up to her art show. Daphne reveals her feelings to Emmett.

Bay searches the internet and thinks she has found her birth father, Angelo, and asks Emmett -- who has been helping Bay try to find him -- and Daphne to go with her to meet him. When Daphne finds out that Bay and Emmett have been getting together to track down her birth father, she grows increasingly upset and maybe a little jealous that they kept this a secret. Even though she's angry with them, Daphne chooses to go in hopes of confronting the man who once abandoned her, but is this the right Angelo Sorrento? Meanwhile, John and Kathyrn try to find out why the hospital board has rescinded the settlement offer - which they learn may have something to do with Regina. But what could she be hiding?

Bay is haunted by an old photo of a pregnant Regina and asks Emmett to help her find her biological father. With Emmett's assistance, the two manage to find his car in an abandoned junkyard, but just as Bay is about to give up, she notices a guitar pick that leads her one step closer to finding her father. Meanwhile, Daphne enrolls in the advanced cooking class at Buckner Hall where she soon realizes their kitchen does not cater to deaf people. After feeling embarrassed by an accident while in class, Daphne almost gets hit by a car, causing her to think for the first time that a cochlear implant might be a good idea. Meanwhile, Toby gets himself further into trouble when he conspires with Wilke to break into the school to steal a test.

After being caught sneaking out to be with Ty, the Kennishes force Bay to invite him over for dinner. Knowing this dinner is going to be an interrogation, Bay tries to prepare on all levels, but nothing can prepare her for the secret Ty reveals. Meanwhile, Toby recruits Daphne and Emmett to help him win a game of poker, but unbeknownst to them, this is a high stakes game and Toby may be in some serious financial trouble. With pressure to help her new brother, Daphne becomes conflicted when her morals start to outweigh her loyalty.

Tensions continue to grow while Kathyrn hosts the annual school benefit at the Kennish residence, where her new family becomes a spectacle for all of Mission Hills to gossip about. Toby and his friend Wilke's (Austin Butler) band are excited to perform at the benefit, but they're in need of a drummer - can Daphne's deaf friend Emmett really play the drums? As the night goes on, Daphne is faced with a heartbreaking decision -- to choose between a family she barely knows and an exciting new love interest who makes her feel that being deaf is not an issue. Meanwhile, Melody (Marlee Matlin) and John appear to be establishing a bond during the benefit. As rumors fly about the family's real situation, Kathryn has a difficult time accepting her husband's new friend. Making matters worse, Regina accepts a dinner invitation from the ex-husband of one of Kathyrn's best friends.

As Bay continues to see Daphne's relationship with her family blossom, Bay wonders about her biological father. It is soon discovered, however, that the story behind the man she's inquiring about is more complicated than she could have imagined.

The Kennish and Vasquez families struggle to adjust to life together as Kathryn and Regina differ over their parenting styles, and Bay and Daphne both begin to develop separate love interests that hit very close to home.
